Lazio hitman Ciro Immobile has been named Striker of the Season in Serie A, as he is set to take the Capocannoniere title with 27 goals.

The veteran may have been criticised for his performances in the Italy jersey, but despite the change of coach and tactical system under Maurizio Sarri, he didn’t miss a beat at club level.

In Serie A alone during the 2021-22 campaign, Immobile found the net 27 times in just 31 appearances, averaging a goal every 101 minutes of football.

He could yet feature in the final game against Hellas Verona, but is struggling with an ankle injury and remains in doubt for Sunday’s fixture.

Nonetheless, Immobile is still comfortably on track to be crowned Capocannoniere for the fourth time after 22 goals in 2013-14, 29 in 2017-18 and 36 in 2019-20.

Next in line Dusan Vlahovic is stuck at 24 goals in 35 games between Fiorentina and Juventus, so would need something remarkable to overtake Immobile now.

  1. Your Italian midfield is what’s useless, still waiting for someone to name a player who came in for Ciro or played as a ST and did better over the last 2 to 3 years!

  2. Agree 100% Zee
Easy to blame Immobile, yet no one in the last 10 years has done any better when he doesn’t play.
