Fabio Capello discussed Cristiano Ronaldo’s recent controversial interview and his future with Manchester United.

The five time Ballon d’Or winner gave an incredibly open interview to Piers Morgan recently, where he discussed his unhappiness at Manchester United and his lack of respect for coach Erik ten Hag. Ronaldo now seems destined to leave the club in the upcoming January transfer window, although it’s unclear who can afford his demanding wages.

Speaking to Sky Sports Italia ahead of the Globe Soccer Awards event in Dubai, Capello discussed Ronaldo’s situation at Manchester United.

“There is a lot of talk about him probably choosing a way out also because this time he is not on the stronger side.

“United has history, the club wants to defend it, CR7 was not considered important, so he is losing some appeal. Making a decision will be inevitable.”

He also commented on who could win the Globe Soccer Award’s best player title and which Serie A player has impressed him most this season.

“On the other hand, I don’t exclude that the title of best footballer goes to Benzema. Among the Italians, on the other hand, I have very few doubts.

“In my opinion the best of this season was ‘Khvara’, that’s what I call Kvaratskhelia because it’s easier and more recognisable to the fans.”

The 37-year-old Ronaldo ended a three-year spell with Juventus to join Manchester United last year, returning to the Red Devils in a deal worth around €17m. In his first season back, the Portuguese star scored 18 goals in 30 Premier League games, but this season he has hardly featured under Ten Hag.
