Former Milan and Juventus coach Fabio Capello insists the Bianconeri’s win over RB Leipzig was an ‘absolute feat’ inspired by a ‘signal’ that Thiago Motta sent to the team.
Juventus secured their second successive Champions League victory on Wednesday, beating RB Leipzig 3-2 away.
The Serie A giants were reduced to ten more for over 30 minutes in the second half, but they still scored twice to seal a frankly incredible victory. It was the first time ever that Juventus won a Champions League game despite going behind twice.
“It was an absolute feat,” former Juventus coach Capello wrote in his Gazzetta dello Sport column on Friday (page 37).
“When Di Gregorio was sent off, many coaches would have introduced a defender to get a draw. Motta, on the other hand, introduced Douglas Luiz, sending a signal to the team. Despite the numerical disadvantage, we are here to play our football and secure three points.”
There was also bad news for the Old Lady in Germany: Gleison Bremer suffered a cruciate ligament injury, while Nico Gonzalez had a muscle problem that will force him to the sidelines for about a month. Furthermore, Arek Milik underwent surgery this week, so Dusan Vlahovic is the only natural centre forward on the team.
“It remains to be seen how Motta will deal with this emergency,” continued Capello. “Bremer will remain out for several months, and Nico has stopped after Milik.”
Juventus’ next Serie A match is against Cagliari at the Allianz Stadium.
