Former Juventus coach Fabio Capello believes Sassuolo star Domenico Berardi would be more useful to Massimiliano Allegri than Pierre-Emile Højbjerg or Kalvin Phillips.

The Serie A giants will be looking for reinforcements in attack and central midfield in January and Capello discussed Juventus’ transfer strategies during an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport on Wednesday.

Højbjerg and Phillips are among those linked with a move to the Allianz Stadium in the winter transfer window, but Capello believes Juventus’ priorities lie elsewhere.

“I’ve always thought Phillips is a complete midfielder and the same is true of Højbjerg,” Capello told Gazzetta.

“However, Berardi is the creative player Allegri is missing. If you move well, Domenico will deliver a perfect pass. His passes are quick and dangerous, not slow, and he’d be an added value for Juventus. He would create an excellent attacking trio with Dusan Vlahovic and Federico Chiesa.”

Juventus were interested in Berardi last summer, but Sassuolo refused to sell their star in the second part of August when they would have no more time to sign a valuable replacement.

Capello also spoke about Allegri’s tactics against Fiorentina, defending the Livorno-born coach who fans and pundits have accused of being too defensive.

Juventus host Cagliari at the Allianz Stadium in Turin on Saturday in the final league game before the November break.
