Fabio Capello is the latest pundit to criticise Theo Hernandez after his nightmare outing for Milan during their 2-1 loss away to Fiorentina on Sunday, suggesting that the game was ‘simply unacceptable’ and that the Frenchman has ‘only brought negativity’ to the Milan squad.

Capello criticises Milan and Theo Hernandez after Fiorentina debacle

Theo Hernandez had a night to forget for the Rossoneri during their last Serie A outing. He was responsible for giving away a penalty, then missed one himself, before being sent-off for dissent after the full-time whistle.

Part of Capello’s criticism was aimed at the wider Milan group. There was confusion and anger in the aftermath, as coach Paulo Fonseca confirmed that Christian Pulisic is the designated penalty taker, but he took neither of Milan’s two spot kicks against Fiorentina

Writing in his Gazzetta dello Sport column, Capello labelled the insubordination ‘simply unacceptable’, and went on to insist that ‘footballers should never be allowed to just do what they want’.

Theo Hernandez, who was wearing the captain’s armband against Fiorentina, earned individual criticism for his lack of leadership qualities.

Capello pointed to the examples set by the likes of Paolo Maldini and Franco Baresi, before suggesting that Theo Hernandez has ‘only brought negativity to the group’.
