Cristiano Ronaldo represents “a work of genius” from Juventus directors, said ex Real Madrid boss Fabio Capello. “I think Gonzalo Higuain is going to Chelsea.”

The transfer was completed today for €100m, plus €12m in formation payments to his previous clubs Sporting CP and Manchester United.

Some have baulked at the €30m per year net salary awarded in a four-year contract to a player who is already 33.

“Cristiano Ronaldo’s arrival is very important for Italian football, a work of genius for Juventus and for all of Italy,” Capello told Sky Sport Italia.

“It also represents an investment that will certainly improve the club on a financial level too. Ronaldo is a money-making machine and brings definite business to Juventus.”

Capello knows both clubs well, but has not worked with Cristiano Ronaldo before.

“He transformed himself from a winger to a genuine centre-forward and it’ll be far easier for him to play at Juve, as they provide plenty of crosses.

“He really looks after his body and I doubt there will be any problems in terms of fitness. I honestly didn’t think Juve would be able to get him, as I was told different things from Madrid, but perhaps this was part of the Spanish plan.

“We have to compliment Andrea Agnelli and Beppe Marotta, because getting Ronaldo really is the coup of world football. His arrival also opens the door for Serie A and other champions could follow.

“Now all we need is a great President of Milan and from there on, Italian football could do great things.”

When it comes to how Juventus will change to fit CR7, Capello can see one evident exit.

“I think Higuain will leave and I think he’s heading towards Chelsea, where Maurizio Sarri is waiting with open arms.”
