Fabio Capello “trusts” Silvio Berlusconi with Milan’s future, backs Napoli’s furious tirade at UEFA and defends Jose Mourinho’s bus.

The Russia manager spoke to La Gazzetta dello Sport about a range of topics, including his old club potentially selling up to Asian investors.

“I think Berlusconi is doing the right things. Important issues like this need to be discussed in a calm way, as haste could be costly.

“Berlusconi has always shown he has a good nose for business. I trust him.”

Tonight Milan face Roma at San Siro in a big Serie A match.

“It’s unpredictable. Milan cannot afford to lose again, while Roma need points to secure second place. Rudi Garcia’s men have only just overtaken Lazio and can’t let go now.”

Things aren’t much better across the city, where Inter also look unlikely to qualify for Europe.

“Roberto Mancini did everything possible to fix the situation and is making his mark on the squad, but I get the feeling he expected it to be easier,” continued Capello.

“Inter need to be reconstructed and the UEFA Financial Fair Play fine makes that project more complicated.”

Napoli are in the Europa League semi-final, but President Aurelio De Laurentiis launched a scathing attack on UEFA after Dnipro scored an offside goal for the 1-1 first leg result.

“In Austria my Russia conceded a goal with three players in offside positions. De Laurentiis is perfectly right to be angry, as a colossal error like that can cost Napoli the Europa League.

“I still believe they’ve got what it takes to secure the Final in Ukraine anyway. The really sad thing is that in all sports technology has been embraced for a while now, but football is always far behind.”

Jose Mourinho won the Premier League title with Chelsea this season and Capello defended him against accusations of excessive negativity.

“The victory confirms the great intelligence of Mourinho. He may well have parked the bus a few times, but he won. I always look to the famous Giampiero Boniperti phrase: ‘Winning is the only thing that matters.’

“Mourinho wins trophies, the others discuss philosophy. John Terry also played an important part and I always supported him, even when people tried to pin blame on him that was undeserved.

“Because of him, I left the England team. He remains in my view the best English defender.”
