Fabio Capello has claimed the nine-point gap between Roma and Milan doesn’t represent the difference in quality ahead of this weekend’s match.

Roma sit fifth in Serie A and currently hold a nine-point lead over eight-placed Milan, but Capello has claimed Stefano Pioli has turned things around after replacing Marco Giampaolo at the helm in October.

“In current values, there are nine points of difference,” he told Tuttosport. “The excessive margin is mainly due to the seven first games of the championship, when Milan struggled under [Marco] Giampaolo.

“After the arrival of Pioli and the subsequent signing of Ibrahimovic, the situation has clearly improved.”

Capello claims the Diavolo still have problems at the back but insists they could hurt the Giallorossi when they break.

“Milan can hurt them on the counterattack,” he added. “They have already played and won together. Milan’s problem is the defence and other players to recover.
