Fabio Capello suggested that Juventus had the most impressive transfer window this summer but still felt that Inter were the favourites to win the Scudetto.
The Bianconeri made a number of important additions this summer, adding Gleison Bremer, Filip Kostic, Arkadiusz Milik, Paul Pogba, Angel Di Maria and Leandro Paredes to their squad over the last few months. Despite their work, Juventus’ season has started slowly as injuries have limited Massimiliano Allegri’s options.
Speaking to SportWeek, Capello first reflected on the Serie A summer transfer window, drawing attention to Juventus’ important work.
“Looking at the names, Juventus were the winners. They had a top summer with Di Maria, Pogba, Paredes, all champions that other teams don’t have. Bremer is better than de Ligt on a defensive level.
“Juve have invested in quality, catching up with Inter and Milan. Without the new players they’re already among the top teams, while the others lost players when they started to make the turnover.”
The former Milan and Roma coach then gave his favourites for the Scudetto race this season.
“It’s still Inter, even though they lost Perisic and have Lukaku injured. The Belgian is the market coup of the summer.
“Milan made an important effort for De Ketelaere, whom I confess I don’t know. Napoli have replaced the departing players with good alternatives. Lazio will also be one to watch.”
Juventus and Inter both find themselves in the lower end of the top half of the table, in seventh and eighth respectively. Neither team has managed to pick up consistent results from their opening five fixtures, although the Nerazzurri’s two defeats may be more frustrating than the Bianconeri’s three draws.
