Italian tactician Fabio Capello has been confirmed as the new head Coach of the Russian national side.

The 66-year-old was one of 13 candidates under consideration to succeed Dick Advocaat who has re-joined PSV after Euro 2012.

Capello, formerly of Milan, Roma and Juventus, was available for hire after he resigned as England boss back in February following four years in charge.

“We have decided to appoint Fabio Capello as the new Coach of the national side,” stated Russian FA Vice-President Nikita Simonyan.

“We’ll await for the arrival of Capello in the next few days so we can iron out the last few details and he can then sign his contract.”

It is unclear how long Capello’s contract will be or how much it will be worth, but his primary task will be making Russia contenders at World Cup 2014.
