Former coach Fabio Capello is in favour of cutting unvaccinated players’ salaries: ‘I can imagine their sources…’
Serie A has made COVID vaccine mandatory for all players but according to reports in Italy, there are still a few of them refusing to take the jab and former coach Fabio Capello believes they should see their salary cut.
“I can imagine the footballers’ sources. Not getting the vaccine is an act of selfishness and if Police officers are obliged to do so, I don’t see why footballers should be excluded,” Capello told La Gazzetta dello Sport.
“Who doesn’t get the vaccine cause damage to society and should see his salary reduced.”
Serie A games will go ahead on Thursday and Sunday despite many COVID cases registered in the country and among football players, including those vaccinated.
“I don’t think Serie A will stop,” said Capello. “Those who are vaccinated contract the virus in a lighter way and don’t take as long to recover.”
Capello has also shared his thoughts on the title race, the future of Dusan Vlahovic and Romelu Lukaku’s claims on his move to Chelsea.
The Belgium international has apologised to Inter fans for the way he left over the summer and has admitted that the situation at Stamford Bridge is not ideal for him.
“I don’t like it when players say things like this,” said Capello.
On the other hand, Vlahovic has been targeted by the best clubs in Europe but is unlikely to leave Fiorentina in January.
“Vlahovic is ready, he has the wickedness of a champion, but I am afraid he would join a league richer than ours,” the former coach admitted.
“Inter are already the strongest team in the league, which I have said since the beginning of the season,” the 75-year-old added while discussing the title race in Serie A.
“They have kept the same defence and the same midfield, plus Calhanoglu. Inzaghi has transmitted his ideas well and the team are working well under him.”

Unvaxxed players should not only be fined, but suspended without pay until vaccinated. No club deserves what Perisic did to Croatia in Euro 2020.
