Fabio Capello feels goals scored in JuventusInter ‘ruined the game’ because they convinced Massimiliano Allegri and Simone Inzaghi to adopt a defensive approach, but the Nerazzurri disappointed him more.

Juventus and Inter collected a 1-1 draw in a Serie A meeting at the Allianz Stadium on Sunday.

Dusan Vlahovic scored his first goal in over two months to give Juventus the lead in the first half, but only a few minutes later, Lautaro Martinez equalised.

Capello analysed the game in an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“Juventus needed a further confidence boost and play on par with Inter. Max is still close to the leaders and is keeping a positive environment, which is important,” said the former Juventus and Milan coach.

“I don’t think Juventus could do more, given the absentees. Nicolussi Caviglia made his debut as a starter and he was quite good. Inter have more quality and it’s a pity they played as Inter only for five minutes when they were down.

“I expect the best team in the league to be more daring to win. Inter have the potential to be runaway leaders like Napoli last season,” continued the 77-year-old.

“In Turin, they completed 680 passes to create little. I think Yann Sommer had more touches than the two strikers. After the equaliser, they just waited for a chance that didn’t come.”

Capello feels the two goals ruined the show in Turin on Sunday.

“We didn’t see great desire to win on either side. The two goals ruined the rest of the game because both were scored from counter-attacks,” he explained.

“The coaches must have thought: ‘It’s not possible, come on!’ and in the second half, the game became boring. I watch many games from other European leagues, where they play vertical football and try to hurt their opponents every time they have the ball. Here, it’s different.”

Despite Sunday’s draw in Turin Capello believes Inter are still title favourites.

“By far, I am not the only one saying so. It’s a common opinion that they only have themselves to blame if they don’t win the title. That’s why I expected something more from Inzaghi’s team on Sunday,” he concluded.

Inter visit Benfica in the Champions League on Wednesday, while Juventus will play the next league game on Friday, away at Monza. The Bianconeri are two points below Serie A table leaders Inter, who have the best attack and the less-beaten defence.
