Fabio Capello believes Inter remain the favourite to win the Scudetto but sees one difference between Antonio Conte and Simone Inzaghi.

The Nerazzurri wasted a chance to climb to the top of the table on Wednesday by losing their game in hand against Bologna. Inzaghi’s men are now two points behind their city rivals Milan, with only four games remaining. Despite their unexpected defeat at the Stadio Dall’Ara, Capello believes Inter remain the favourite to win the title this season.

“They remain the favourite, at least looking at the fixture list. I want to see their reaction. They returned stronger after the win against Juventus, now let’s see what they do,” he told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“I still back Inzaghi, he is under question because of a goalkeeper’s howler. Bologna put in the right commitment, but Inter attacked for 90 minutes, Bologna had one and a half shots on target and won the game.

“Inter play a good brand of football, I’ve often seen them press in attack. They have different phases; sometimes they defend, sometimes they attack with many men. They have the most goals scored and the fewest conceded.”

Has he noticed any difference between Conte and Inzaghi?

“The team is almost the same as under Conte, except Lukaku and Hakimi, two key players who added pace and depth in attack. Inzaghi had to change,” said Capello.

“Conte focused his attacks on the right with Hakimi and Nicolò Barella, while Inter are giving their best on the left this season, with Hakan Calhanoglu and Ivan Perisic.”

Conte won the first Scudetto in 11 years at Inter last season but left the club a few weeks later. Inzaghi was appointed in the summer and signed a two-year deal with the Serie A giants. He is expected to put pen to paper a new contract at the end of the current campaign that has seen the Nerazzurri qualify for the Champions League Round of 16 for the first time in 10 years.
