“Usually, I would put my best penalty-taker fourth on the list,” Capello told RAI Radio 1.
“The first is always the player with the most self-belief and sense of confidence. It happened to me many times in my career, we went to penalties and someone would walk up, telling me he wanted to take a kick, so I’d let him go first.”
Even before that, Ronaldo and his Juventus teammates seemed sluggish and unable to really test Alex Meret, whereas Gigi Buffon had to perform at least three big saves.
“I thought what everyone else did watching the game, that Juve fell away badly in the second half and really struggled to break them down, just as they did with Milan in the semi-final. This means there’s a definite trend.
“It’s awfully strange if Sarri as the coach of this Juventus squad complains he doesn’t have enough strength in depth. It’s not about how many players you have on the bench, but the quality at your disposal.”
Capello was asked if he believes Sarri will still be on the Bianconeri bench next season.
“I think so, he is a good coach. Juve are not an easy vehicle to steer, as there are players with strong characters and you have to prove yourself in their eyes, to fully believe in your ideas.”
