Former Milan, Roma and Juventus coach Fabio Capello believes Italy will be able to celebrate the UEFA Super Cup final result, regardless of who wins between Atalanta and Real Madrid on Wednesday night.

Capello: Italy the true winners of UEFA Super Cup

That is due to the fact that both teams have a coach from Italy in their dugout: Gian Piero Gasperini and Carlo Ancelotti.

Specifically, Capello claims that Coverciano will be the real winner on Wednesday night, and suggests that other teams in Serie A and beyond should look to the two coaches and their methods for inspiration.

Atalanta and Real Madrid will meet at the National Stadium in Warsaw on Wednesday night to contest for the first European trophy of the 2024-25 season.

La Dea are widely considered as the underdogs on this occasion, not just because of Madrid’s pedigree in elite competitions, but also because of the current state of their playing squad.

Gasperini has lost both Giorgio Scalvini and Gianluca Scamacca to cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries, while star playmaker Teun Koopmeiners is no longer training with the first team, as he has informed the club that he wishes to join Juventus.

Capello hopes, however, that the absences in Atalanta’s squad will make the players who do play step up and perform to even greater heights.
