Former Italian coach Fabio Capello feels Rodri should win the Ballon d’Or, while Federico Chiesa has the ‘right pace’ for the Premier League, and Joshua Zirkzee is struggling because he plays with ‘Italian intensity’ at Man Utd.
Former Milan and England coach Capello believes Manchester City and Spain midfielder Rodri should win the Ballon d’Or this year.
“I’d award Rodri for his performances in the Premier League, the Champions League, and the Euros. He was the best this season,” Capello told Il Corriere della Sera.
France Football revealed the top 30 Ballon d’Or list last week. It does not include Italian players, but Inter stars Lautaro Martinez and Hakan Calhanoglu are in, as is Atalanta ace Ademola Lookman.
Capello: ‘Chiesa’s right pace for Premier League, Man City star deserves Ballon d’Or’
Capello answered other Italian and international football questions, including one about Chiesa’s move to Liverpool.
“I think he has the right pace to play in the Premier League, while I’ve noticed that Zirkzee is struggling because he thinks he can still play with Italian intensity,” he said.
A newly formatted Champions League will start next week and Capello would not be surprised to see Massimiliano Allegri involved in the competition later this season.
The Italian tactician is still without a club after leaving Juventus in May.
“Why not? If somebody needs a good coach, thinking about Allegri is natural. He has made the history of Italian football,” Capello concluded.
