In the second part of his interview with Il Corriere dello Sport, Fabio Capello said Chelsea and Italy playmaker Jorginho should win the Ballon d’Or and suggested Real Madrid don’t need to sign Kylian Mbappé.

Capello previewed tonight’s Nations League semi-final between Italy and Spain, hoping the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza crowd won’t boo Gigio Donnarumma on his return to his former stadium.

However, the former coach insisted that the 22-year-old was ungrateful to Milan as he joined PSG as a free agent in the summer.

Capello: ‘Zaniolo similar to Savicevic, Donnarumma ungrateful to Milan’

Capello was asked his thoughts on Jorginho potentially winning the Ballon d’Or and the former England and Milan coach believes the Chelsea star deserves the title this year.

The Italy international became European champion for club and country, winning the Champions League with Chelsea and the Euros with Italy.

“He undoubtedly deserves to win the Ballon d’Or, not just because he won everything but because he played a key role in those achievements,” Capello said.

“I don’t see players who were as decisive as him in 2021.”

The former Real Madrid coach was also asked his thoughts on the Merengues’ campaign with Carlo Ancelotti, who lost the last two games in a row against Sheriff and Espanyol.

“They’ll need time to build a strong team, Madrid need a couple of central defenders, I saw them against Mallorca, Mamma mia…

“Up front they have no problems, even without Mbappé, they have interesting players. Barcelona can sign nobody because they have huge economic problems, but with fans returning to stadiums they will get fresh revenues and open a new cycle.”
