Prandelli refused to confirm or deny whether he would walk away from the Azzurri job after the 2014 World Cup, fuelling speculation he’ll quit.
The initial contenders had been mentioned as Milan Coach Massimiliano Allegri – whose contract expires in June 2014 – and former Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini.
Sky Sport Italia have run down a list of more possible candidates for the Italy position.
They include Capello, who has already worked at international level with England and Russia, where he is currently employed.
Zaccheroni also has experience thanks to his impressive time at Japan, who became the first nation to qualify for the 2014 World Cup, but his contract is due to expire soon.
Antonio Conte would be a popular choice, but it’s unlikely Juventus would want to release him so soon into his career.
Luciano Spalletti has done well at Zenit St. Petersburg, while Claudio Ranieri is also an option, though he only recently took charge of Monaco.
An outside option is Devis Mangia, who recently left as Italy Under-21 Coach after reaching the European Championship Final.
