Guangzhou Evergrande coach Fabio Cannavaro 'dreams' of a return to Napoli and claims Milan 'made a mistake' by letting Gennaro Gattuso leave.

The former defender left Napoli after only three seasons with the first team at the San Paolo and he never returned as a player, but revealed he hopes to do so as a coach.

“I started coaching five years ago and I dream of one day coaching a great team, Napoli are one of them,” he told Sport Mediaset. “I have been lucky to have the best coaches of the last 50 years and I hope to take with me something from each of them.

“The day I decide to return to Europe, I hope I’ll be ready. I have always missed Naples, I left at 21 but remained very close.

“I have lived in many cities around the world, but I will end up in Naples, as a child I dreamed of becoming a symbol of the team.”

Napoli replaced Carlo Ancelotti with Gennaro Gattuso in December 2019 and Cannavaro has claimed he has already shown why he ‘deserves the faith’ at the San Paolo.

“Milan made a mistake, unfortunately they didn’t understand it,” he said. “Rino is prepared, he gives you confidence, he makes you play well and therefore deserves the faith of Napoli”.
