The World Cup and Ballon d’Or winner from 2006 didn’t pick up a trophy during his two short spells at Juventus but played a total of 128 games for the Bianconeri on either side of a stint at Real Madrid.

The Guangzhou Evergrande coach has followed Juventus’ performances from the Far East and has a positive opinion on coach Maurizio Sarri’s work in his first season at the Allianz Stadium.

The former Napoli coach has been criticised for not getting the huge potential out of the Old Lady’s stars, but they were still fighting on all fronts when the current campaign was suspended due to the coronavirus outbreak.

“I think he’s a top coach, he’s surely struggling to transmit his ideas, maybe more than first expected and this could perhaps hinder the play a little,” Cannavaro told Sport Mediaset. “But his qualities are not to be discussed.”

Cannavaro also pointed out Juventus outcast Bernardeschi when asked about his favourite player in Serie A.

“I really like Bernardeschi,” he said. “I like [Lorenzo] Insigne and [Ciro] Immobile too. To name one is very difficult.”

The versatile attacking midfielder has been linked with a move away from the Old Lady and earlier this month Barcelona were linked with a move for the former Fiorentina star, but Milan have also been mentioned as possible suitors for the attacker.
