Italy legend Fabio Cannavaro believes that Ivan Perisic’s move to Tottenham Hotspur isn’t a good sign for Serie A and hopes to see the ‘real’ Paul Pogba at Juventus.

The 2006 Italy World Cup winner is waiting for an offer from a European club to resume his coaching career in the Old Continent. The former defender has won the Chinese title with Tianjin but left the club in September 2021.

“I want to return to the pitch, but I am in no rush,” he told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“I’ve spoken to several clubs in England and Spain, but I must be convinced about the decision. It’s not a matter of money, but I must feel the ambition to reach specific targets.

“It’s complicated for Serie A sides to fill the gap with La Liga and Premier League clubs,” Cannavaro continued.

“Perisic’s move to the Premier League isn’t a good sign.”

However, Juventus are in talks with Paul Pogba and could re-sign him as a free agent from Manchester United.

“I hope we’ll see the real Pogba again, the one of his first spell at Juventus,” said Cannavaro.

“He needs to find the right motivations because the midfielder we’ve seen in the last few seasons isn’t useful to Juventus or France.”

Meantime at Napoli, Kalidou Koulibaly’s future is up in the air, with Barcelona interested in securing his services. The defender’s contract runs out in 2023 and the two parties have not reached an agreement on a new deal.

“Kalidou is a strong defender and there aren’t many players like him,” said Cannavaro.

“At the same time, I understand De Laurentiis as it’s not easy to balance the books. Sometimes one wants to save money, but in some situations, the risk is to spend more.”

Cannavaro also defended his former teammate Gennaro Gattuso who has been accused of being racist by some Valencia fans on social media.

“It’s absurd, there are internal clashes between directors at Valencia, just as it happened at Tottenham. Rino is an exemplary professional and has already reached good results as a coach,” the former defender claimed.

“He can’t be judged by people on social media who have no idea who he is. I am convinced that he will do very well in Spain.”

  1. As an Italian legend you should be more concerned that Serie A is only filled with 32% Italian players.
