Paolo Cannavaro’s agent confirmed Inter and Lazio as options, because his rapport with Napoli Coach Rafa Benitez is “negative.”

The defender and local hero was captain last season, but repeatedly sat on the bench since Benitez took over from Walter Mazzarri.

“We’ll try not to make a drastic decision until the end. We’re due to hold a meeting with Napoli to understand the club’s intentions,” agent Furio Fedele told Radio Crc.

“It seems as if Paolo no longer fits the Napoli logistics. At this moment we must all think of what is best for Napoli, though it’s logical he’s not experiencing this situation with enthusiasm.

“Many unpleasant incidents have occurred during the last three months and, if we want to find a negative side to Benitez’s tenure, it’s his rapport with Paolo.”

It’s reported Cannavaro will leave the Stadio San Paolo in January for a reunion with Mazzarri at Inter or even with another former Napoli boss, Edy Reja, at Lazio.

“His rapport with all his previous Napoli Coaches has always been fantastic, so we’re talking about Reja, Roberto Donadoni and Mazzarri.

“There is absolutely no doubt the sense of respect between Cannavaro and Reja is strong. However, that’s a long way from saying a deal is done. Paolo is not just any player.”

Reja is widely expected to take over from Vladimir Petkovic at Lazio over the next couple of days.
