Two days have passed since the inauguration of the murals at the Mostra station of the Fuorigrotta in Naples.
The stop that leads to the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona now depicts some of the most important characters of the Azzurri’s history.
The murals sparked a few controversies, as some important people have been excluded from the artwork and Cannavaro is one of the missing players.
The former Napoli captain was a protagonist in the rebirth of Napoli and his message on Instagram shows his disappointment in being left out of the painting.
“Perhaps 278 games with the Azzurri shirt, bringing back my favourite team from years in darkness to shine again and winning a trophy after 22 years, or being the captain of Napoli for many years, are not valid reasons to simply be represented on a piece of the 130 panels available in a metro station a few steps away from my house,” he wrote.
“I’m not sorry for not being there with the others nor do I want to beg for a representation, but I’m sorry for those who feel sorry in my place, those who have contacted me for days and are amazed by my absence.
“Thanks to everyone and always, FORZA NAPOLI.”
