The top two of Serie A face off this Saturday in Turin and Cannavaro played for both sides during his career.

The 2006 Ballon D’Or winner doesn’t think the match will decide the Scudetto, but points to European football as the true test for the two teams.

“I don’t think it’s decisive, afterwards the Champions League and Europa League will return and they could take some of the energy of the two teams,” Cannavaro said to Il Mattino.

“This record-breaking pace of the Azzurri and Bianconeri will slow down. It’s difficult to keep up such a frantic rhythm.

“Sarri has given an identity to the team very quickly. He’s had two moments of intuition above all: placing Jorginho in front of the defence in a role that enhances his characteristics and becoming aware of having to give up a trequartista, with all those great wingers that he has.

“Allegri has lifted up a group that seemed to have finished a cycle after the Champions League final. But it wasn’t to be: Juve are always hungry, it’s in their DNA.

“Of course, it’s less spectacular than Conte’s team but more compact. I would say they’re more German than Italian.

“Who do I support? My heart is divided! I’m a Neapolitan and I will support Napoli. Even though it was while playing in Turin that I understood why they’ve won so much.”
