Fabio Cannavaro mocked Didier Drogba during the Ballon d’Or ceremony: ‘It was difficult to play against him, but for me, it was easy because I was faster.’

The former defender is the last Italian player to have won the Ballon d’Or.

“For me, it was an incredible moment, as a defender, it wasn’t easy to win the trophy. The memory is unbelievable,” the 48-year-old said.

Cannavaro took part in the ceremony and awarded Barcelona starlet Pedri with the Kopa Trophy, the award for the best young footballer in the world.

Former Chelsea striker Drogba was one of the ceremony’s presenters, and he took some time to joke with the Italian legend.

When asked how it was like to face Drogba, Cannavaro replied with a smile on his face: “It was so difficult to play against him. He was strong, but for me, it was easy because I was always in front of him. I was faster than him.”

Cannavaro captained Italy during the 2006 World Cup won by the Azzurri in Germany.

He played 421 Serie A games in his career, with Napoli, Parma, Inter and Juventus.

The former defender also played 118 games with Real Madrid where he played between 2006 and 2009.

In September, Cannavaro rescinded his contract with Guangzhou FC and now hopes to get his first job as a coach in Europe.
