Italy legend Fabio Cannavaro says he was ‘honoured’ to talk to Everton and Watford and names the key players in the Serie A title race.

The 2006 World Cup and Ballon d’Or winner released an interview with Il Corriere dello Sport discussing the battle for the Scudetto. The former defender believes Juventus are still involved in the race despite being seven points off table leaders Milan.

“There are many factors, Juventus will face Inter at home, Milan picked up draws against Salernitana and Udinese but won in Naples against an opponent that had beaten Lazio away one week before,” Cannavaro told Il Corriere dello Sport.

“It’s hard to find a favourite in this context, I only say that all four clubs are involved.

“We’ll have fun until the end of the season. I don’t see a potential runaway leader. There are 30 points still available, 33 for Inter. Anything can happen.”

Who are the key players for the Scudetto?

“Milan have Olivier Giroud who has scored decisive goals and Zlatan Ibrahimovic will soon return to action. Nobody else has a player like him. Inter have more than one, Napoli have Victor Osimhen and Juventus have signed an incredible striker in Dusan Vlahovic.

“He can hold the ball and is very determined when he attacks the space, centrally or on the wings. He looked a bit tired lately, but he has played many games, at his age, it’s easier to recover.”

How about Cannavaro’s future? The ex defender rescinded his contract with Guangzhou FC and now hopes to get his first job as a coach in Europe. During an interview with Sky Sport Italia last week, he said that his dream jobs are Napoli and Italy national team. Meantime, he’s spoken to some Premier League clubs and also one from Brazil.

“It was a pleasure and an honour to talk to Everton and Watford and also with Corinthians,” he said.

“I’m taking time, I don’t want to make a wrong choice. I am not in a hurry. I also spoke to the Polish FA, but I wouldn’t have had enough time to prepare for the World Cup play-offs, which unfortunately won’t be played because of the war.”
