Antonio Candreva said Lazio “made life difficult for ourselves” in the Champions League play-off with Bayer Leverkusen.

They had won the first leg 1-0, but were crushed 3-0 in Germany with costly defensive errors and Mauricio sent off.
“We made life difficult for ourselves,” Candreva told Mediaset Premium.

“We hadn’t started badly and created some chances to hurt them. We went down to 10 men and still needed just one ball, one goal to hope, but it didn’t happen.

“Now we have to begin again from the first leg performance, our win over Bologna, and from this game, as we must learn from these mistakes. You cannot make errors like this in the Champions League.”

Candreva was asked whether Lazio missed the experience of injured Miroslav Klose, Federico Marchetti and Lucas Biglia.

“We can’t know what would’ve happened, but the players are important, experienced and are reference points for our team.”
