Candreva: ‘I want to score more’

Inter winger Antonio Candreva admits “I’m not scoring this year and I’m disappointed”, while reiterating the Champions League target.

The Italian international has provided eight assists this season, more than anyone else in a Nerazzurro shirt, but he hasn’t found the back of the net in 23 Serie A appearances.

“Myself and Ivan [Perisic, second for assists] will always try to give the best for this shirt,” Candreva assured, speaking to Inter TV.

“This year I’m not scoring and I’m disappointed by that because you can be decisive while scoring, it’s a unique emotion.

“I do like to make the others score though, ever since I was small I always liked number 10s, those who made that final pass, such as [Zinedine] Zidane and Roberto Baggio.

“Our objective is the Champions League, and we’re all an integral part of this project.

“Luciano Spalletti? I have a good relationship with him, it’s a shame I didn’t have him earlier in my career.

“He gets things out of you that you didn’t think you had, he’s sincere and loyal. If I’d been younger I could have had a better growth process with him, seeing how he handles the youngsters we have here.

“They should be appreciative of the fact they’re working with someone like him.

“I myself am improving in various aspects that we analyse both by eye and with the team.”

Candreva was also asked about Mauro Icardi, the Beneamata captain who has been linked with Real Madrid.

“Mauro is a great person, a great striker, and a great person, and I think he can still improve even more.

“We’re lucky to have him with us.”
