Juventus had hoped to bring Joao Cancelo back from Manchester City, but between their loan terms and the player pushing for Barcelona, that seems unlikely.

There have been multiple reports over the last few days that the 30-year-old has been told to leave the Etihad, as he has no future in Pep Guardiola’s plans.

He just returned from loans at Bayern Munich and then Barcelona, but despite having a contract to June 2027, City want to make the move a permanent one this summer.

Juve had spoken to Cancelo’s agent and wanted a loan with option to buy, which was rejected by the club.

Cancelo would prefer Barcelona to Juventus

Now Diario As and transfer expert Matteo Moretto both claim that Cancelo turned down offers from the Saudi Pro League and other big European clubs – presumably Juventus – because he has his heart set on Barcelona.

The problem remains, in that Barca are also only looking to make it a renewed loan.

The Portugal international first joined Juventus from Valencia for €40.4m in 2018 and was sold a year later to Manchester City for €65m.
