Former Juventus star Mauro Camoranesi urges Juventus to keep Juan Cuadrado and Danilo, while Matthijs de Ligt ‘might be more suited to the Premier League than Serie A.’

The Argentina-born Italian-adopted player was part of the World Cup winning squad in 2006 and after retirement went into management.

He is currently in Turin and spoke to Il Bianconero about the current state of his old club.

“In the last four years, certain objectives have changed, they had three coaches in three seasons, with very different ideas and players with very different characteristics,” said Camoranesi.

“There seemed to be a project at least in place a couple of years ago, then Maurizio Sarri was brought in with players not suited to his ideas. He won the Scudetto, but that’s only because all the other teams were struggling badly.”

How can Juventus and Max Allegri catch up to Milan and Inter now?

“A coach can only do so much. You need good players, Allegri is right when he says that.”

There are reports the Bianconeri are going to whittle down their squad with the departure of more big names after Paulo Dybala’s exit.

These include versatile wing-back Cuadrado, Danilo and centre-back De Ligt.

“Cuadrado has always been my favourite, he really turns on the entertainment value, and I really like Danilo,” added Camoranesi.

“De Ligt is an extraordinary player with an enormous future ahead of him. It’s true, he makes mistakes, but what defender doesn’t?

“I see him better suited to the Premier League than Serie A, a competition where there are more individual duels than in Italy.”

Dutch defender De Ligt has indeed been linked with the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United, Antonio Conte’s Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City, while Barcelona are short on funds to make such a big investment at this moment in time.

  1. If juve sell de ligt after losing chielini and Dybala they won’t be winning the league next season

  2. The Dutch Phil Jones still has high stock and he needs to leave the back, back, down, down asap. With no tactics needed to play in England, this will suit his clumsy characteristics. Maybe he can be the sparring partner to Maguire, the most overhyped and priced pub defender. The issue for Juve is they have no pulling power and Dusan gambled wrong. He is another that has the characteristics better suited to the EPL. Now he has Obi Wan Max, Jedi Storm Trooper of 88 minutes all defence.

  3. I would have loved to see the type of comments about Allegri when Juve were cruising few years ago. Anyone would struggle with that team. The likes of Rabiot Artur etc don’t know how to go forward. Back down whatever is what they know. Chiesa Cuadrado have pace, no one with an actual brain to build stuff… De Light should leave, they need an Italian player who knows defending not this overrated dude
