Esteban Cambiasso is in talks with Leicester City, but “deserved better” than how his Inter career ended.
The Argentine midfielder arrived as a free agent from Real Madrid and stayed for 10 years, winning the Treble in 2010, but his contract was not renewed this summer.
“I still can’t quite realise it’s over with Inter,” Cuchu told Sky Sport Italia.
“I feel like I’m among the fans, I feel their warmth when I’m walking down the street and that’s why I haven’t written any letter of thanks, because I still feel like I’m with them.”
Cambiasso was the last of the big names to know his contract would not be renewed and his departure came as something of a surprise to fans too.
“I deserved better. It would’ve been fair to let me know the contract would not be renewed a little earlier, not even three or four months, but that would’ve given me time to think. Instead I found out the day before the last game of the season with Chievo.
“Considering all I’d been through in these 10 years with Inter, they could’ve told me a week earlier.”
Would Cambiasso have been treated differently if Massimo Moratti was still at the helm rather than Erick Thohir?
“Probably, but the fact remains I contributed to making Moratti’s dreams come true. Knowing so many fans feel represented by me is an enormous honour.”
He also explained why he is seeking a new experience in England with Leicester City.
“I don’t think I’d be capable of giving to another Italian club what I’ve given to Inter. This week I’ll decide where to begin again from, where I can be happy with my family.
“Wherever it is, I think I’ll only sign a one-year contract. That’s my choice.”
