Bologna defender Andrea Cambiaso confirms Juventus wanted to bring him back to the Allianz Stadium in January and sees similarities between Thiago Motta and José Mourinho.

The 23-year-old moved to the Stadio Dall’Ara on loan from Juventus last summer and the Bianconeri wanted to bring him back to the club in January, the player confirmed.

“I never said I wanted to leave [Bologna], I know the clubs discussed it [in January], but Bologna said no and I am happy like this,” he told Gazzetta. “Now it’s too early to talk about what will happen in the future.”

The Rossoblu shocked Inter with a 1-0 win at the Stadio Dall’Ara on Sunday and are in the race for a European finish this season, sitting seventh in the table, three points clear of Juventus who have a game in hand.

Thiago Motta replaced Sinisa Mihajlovic in September and has won 10 of his 20 games in charge of the Emilia Romagna-based club.

“Motta often tells us to focus on the next match, it may sound like a cliché but it’s correct because what happens tomorrow is a consequence of what we do today,” said Cambiaso.

“He has created a solid connection between 23-24 players. We are a nice mix of young and experienced players. I like to mention Lorenzo De Silvestri, an incredible person. He’s helped me so much, on and off the pitch.

“I’ve often spoken to players who worked under Mourinho and I can see similarities with Motta. I think he learned some things from his coach during the Treble season.”

Motta won the treble at Inter under the Portuguese coach in 2009-10. He played 83 games with the Nerazzurri scoring 12 goals. Overall, he made 82 Serie A appearances with the Nerazzurri and Genoa, winning one Scudetto with the Biscione.

A Brazil-born midfielder with Italian passport, Motta played 30 games with the Azzurri as a footballer, scoring one goal.
