Andrea Cambiaso is ‘privileged’ to play for Juventus and explains how Man City defender Joao Cancelo has inspired him.

The Italian left-back has returned to Juventus after a one-year loan at Bologna and started in a 3-0 win over Udinese on Sunday night.

“It’s a privilege to be here, I am so happy,” the 23-year-old told DAZN.

“The tournée was good, I come from the lower divisions so it’s great to play with these big players, it’s like being at a playground, I have a lot of fun on the pitch.”

It’s no secret that Cambiaso’s role model is Manchester City defender Joao Cancelo, who recently sent his shirt to the Italian defender as a gift.

Cambiaso explained how the Portuguese international had inspired him.

“I like to see his movements, I have a good photographic memory, I am improving and I hope I can do even more.

“I used to play in a four-man defence at Bologna so I had more defensive duties,” he continued.

“I have to say that I like this new role [left wing-back]. I like to attack so this position allows me to play a little further up on the pitch. It’s good to play with Federico [Chiesa] because he likes to play wide on the left so I can cut inside.

“This is just the beginning, I am improving. Surely, I have to manage my energies better. After 65-70 minutes, I had cramps, and the coach told me I ran too much. I want to do this for 90 minutes, so I must improve.”

Juventus secured a comfortable victory at the Dacia Arena and will meet Bologna in the first home game of the season this coming Sunday at 18:30 CEST.

This is Cambiaso’s first full season as a Juventus player as he joined the Bianconeri from Genoa for circa €8m in the summer of 2022, but the Italian spent the last season on loan at Bologna delivering three assists in 32 league appearances.
