A storm has been brewing since the 1-1 draw which saw two perfectly good goals disallowed – a Sulley Muntari effort which crossed the line and would have made it 2-0 and an Alessandro Matri strike which proved to be onside.
“Refereeing mistakes will favour and go against you from time to time,” Lo Monaco told Radio Sportiva.
“However, there are too many reactions in this game which do harm to our sport. There has been too much talk lately.
“I wouldn’t allow certain club officials and Coaches to speak given that they fire off all sorts of statements.”
Lo Monaco then seemed to suggest that clubs could learn from how his Sicilian outfit have conducted themselves.
“We lost against Juventus after a clear foul by Giorgio Chiellini when he scored and we didn’t say a word,” he added.
“Everyone just needs to calm down.”
The Catania man also refused to criticise Gigi Buffon for his admission that he wouldn’t have told the referee that Muntari’s strike had gone in had he realised it was over the line.
“Buffon is right. Who would have owned up against their own team?”
