The 27-year-old’s strong start to the season with Napoli has seen him included in Vicente del Bosque’s squad for fixtures this month against Belarus and Germany.
Facing the media today, the winger reflected on the new surroundings he finds himself in.
“I am happy but also a bit nervous because I am new here,” Callejon told media as soon as he arrived at Las Rozas.
“It’s an important stepping stone for my career and I want to give my best and make the most of it.”
Callejon is the Serie A Capocannoniere with eight goals to his name so far and he is on course to equal his 20-goal mark from last season.
In the actual squad, only Chelsea’s Diego Costa has fared better than the Napoli attacking midfielder, bulging the net on nine occasions.
“I felt that one day this chance could have come whilst I tried to play well and do my best with Napoli in order to have this chance, and today I’m happy that I’ve made it.”
Spain host Belarus in Huelva on Saturday for the Euro Qualifiers, before facing Germany in a friendly next Tuesday in Vigo and Callejon is ready to give his contribution to the cause.
“I’ve texted Sergio Ramos and Iker Casillas before coming here, they are good friends of mine.
“I haven’t spoken with Vicente del Bosque though and actually today I’m meeting him for the first time. I don’t know whether I’ll play – you should ask him.
“I’m available and if that will happen I’ll be ready. He is doing a good job and after the World Cup he said that new faces were needed.
“I can replicate here what I’m doing with Napoli and I hope I can show my skills – I can offer hard work, sacrifice and basically everything else I’m doing with my club.”
