In an interview with Fox Sports, the 28-year-old admitted that while he is happy in Germany, moving to Italy would give him a better chance of earning an international call-up.

“I am very happy in Germany, I like everything here, but it’s normal that I think about returning to Italy,” Caligiuri revealed.

“I would be closer to getting into the national team. My contract expires in June, but for now I’m not thinking about it. I am thinking about the League, we need to return to winning and scoring.”

Rumours have linked the midfielder with a move to Lazio, but Caligiuri denied there has been any contact with the Biancocelesti.

“Lazio? I only learned of their interest because of the newspapers. Nobody has contacted me or my agent, there have never been any negotiations.”
