Gordon Stipic, the agent of Inter midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu, provided an update on his client’s possible contract renewal with Inter.

The 29-year-old Turkish midfielder joined the Nerazzurri on a free transfer in July 2021 after ending a four-year spell with their intercity rivals Milan. His move infuriated the Rossoneri supporters, who are not afraid to make their unhappiness known in Derby della Madonnina clashes.

Calhanoglu has carved out an important player for himself in Simone Inzaghi’s Inter squad and has featured prominently this season, playing 2348 minutes of action across 32 appearances. In that time, he’s scored three goals and provided six assists.

Speaking to TMW, Stipic first discussed the current state of Calhanoglu’s new contract talks with Inter.

“We are talking, we haven’t set a deadline, but I have to be honest and say there is no pressure. There will be other meetings, no rush. Calha is happy, he is happy with the way he is playing, the way he is at Inter.

“He feels great, he has an important role, and he is happy. In March we’ll see each other, we’ll hear from each other, and we’ll talk about it again.”

Calhanoglu’s agent then spoke about his client’s new lease of life with the Nerazzurri in a deeper midfield role.

“It’s from his boyhood days at Karlsruhe that he loves to have the ball, to play ‘quarterback’. He’s playing the role that Pirlo had in his career and they also have the same ‘body language’.

“Calm, never aggressive, great strategy, always focused. I repeat: he is very happy with the way things are going.”

Since his arrival at Inter, Calhanoglu has made 78 appearances across all competitions, scoring 11 goals and providing 19 assists.
