After Juan Cuadrado, Inter will be forced to do without Hakan Calhanoglu too in their Champions League opener against Real Sociedad on Wednesday.

The Turkey international was not among the Inter players taking off from Milan‘s Malpensa Airport on Tuesday.

Inter are heading to Spain where they’ll meet La Liga side Real Sociedad in the 2023-24 group stage opener tomorrow.

Several sources claim Calhanoglu has suffered muscle fatigue in the adductor of his left thigh.

Cuadrado, on the other hand, is dealing with tendinitis. He was available against Milan on Saturday but was not involved.

Kristjan Asllani is the main candidate to replace Calhanoglu in the middle of the park tomorrow given that Stefano Sensi has not been included in Inter’s UEFA list for the group phase. However, another option for Inzaghi is to deploy Henrikh Mkhitaryan as a deep-lying playmaker and start Davide Frattesi or Davy Klaassen with Nicolò Barella.

Calhanoglu has scored two goals in four Serie A appearances so far this season, including one in a 5-1 win against his ex-club Milan on Saturday.

Calhanoglu has recently extended his contract at the Stadio Meazza until June 2027.
