Inter forward Hakan Calhanoglu believes the Nerazzurri are the team to beat after winning the Scudetto last term. ‘Roma and Napoli? We are the favourites’.

The Turkey international joined Inter on a free transfer from local rivals Milan during the summer and spoke to Il Corriere dello Sport ahead of the match against Atalanta on Saturday.

Serie A Preview | Inter vs. Atalanta: big test for both teams at San Siro

Napoli are top of the league with five wins in five, while Roma, Milan and Atalanta continue to push the giants in Serie A.

“A lot of teams could be in the battle until the end,” Calhanoglu told the newspaper. “Roma and Napoli have both had a great start, but Atalanta are there too.

“I don’t know who else could join us. We are the favourites after the win last season.”

Calhanoglu finished second with Milan last term and the two sides are tied on points at second in Serie A after five games.

  1. Napoli does not spend like Inter or A.C, and Juve,,therefore Napoli does not have the roster depth, but Napoli has superior quality and continuity, if they manage to
stay healthy Napoli should win the championship, let’s ask ourselves would either Ibrahimovic morata or Eden dzenko have a place on Napoli’s starting xl,,answer NOPE!

  2. The best move Milan made was pushing this idiot out the door . I am an AC fan , Napoli are serious quality ! Anyone who says different well they don’t know football.
I used to scream at the TV to get this guy off the pitch , and Inter pay him 6 m ? Just shut up .
So Napoli are in first , Inter and Milan are tied for second , and he can’t figure out who else will join them? If that’s not a dig at Milan i am not sure what is . Goof ball Cashanoglu!

  3. Lol I know he is angry when Pioli said that last year we played with a midfielder but now we have a high quality AMF.

  4. Both of you are amusing. It is only been 5 games and Napoli are favourites. Give me a break, they do not have the squad depth plain and simple. They beat a decimated but overall in decline Juventus which has been on the slope for 4 years. Inter will man handle them when they meet and that is the difference, quality and a deeper bench.

  5. I don’t remember the last time the league was won by matchday 5. The question of favourite is stupid Inter with Spalleti were on top of the league but failed to win it. The same with Milan last season but ended up struggling to get the CL place on the LAST match. The fact that Inter won the league last season with 12 points clear should automatically makes them favourite even if they were sitting at the bottom of the table at matchday 5. That’s why Milan, Napoli and sides fighting for top 5 should be more worried to Juve rather than Inter. So far Inter have faced way tougher challenges with situations of playing with ten men to conceding early goals but in all situations points were earned. Even against Real Madrid who by the way are more deadly than last season they managed to dominate that match even tho they got the late goal as it was an overall good performance against a very experienced team in CL. The same can not be said for Milan against Liverpool when it was like Intervs Fiorentina where even tho the lower team scored it was just a matter of time before the bigger team win the match.

  6. It’s true, as an Inter fan, Hakan hasn’t been great for us since his first 15 minutes. But that was a very good 15 minutes. And it is worth noting that he assisted Dzeko’s goal midweek, which was the goal that won us the 3 points.

So I can definitely see the inconsistency that drove Milan fans crazy. But at the same time, he was a very good free transfer for us, and if/when Brahim Diaz gets injured or needs a rest, I am pretty sure not many Milan fans will be glad he is playing that weekend for Inter.
