Hakan Calhanoglu explains he aimed for the goal on purpose direct from the corner flag to surprise Roma goalkeeper Rui Patricio. ‘Inter dominated the match.’

The midfielder swung the ball straight in at the near post from a corner, sending it through Rui Patricio’s legs to open the scoring at the Stadio Olimpico.

When speaking to DAZN after the final whistle of the 3-0 result, the Turkey international was asked if he’d done that on purpose.

“Yes, I went for the goal,” replied Calhanoglu. “I always try to go for the near post from the corner flag and this time it went well.

“I am glad at my assist for Edin Dzeko too. Inter dominated the match, we allowed Roma nothing at all, it was a great performance.”

Was this the best Inter performance of the season under new coach Simone Inzaghi?

“We had other great ones too, against Juventus and Milan, regardless of the results being draws. We never stopped believing.”

Calhanoglu was famous for being incredibly inconsistent at Milan, but seems to be transformed at Inter.

“I feel more confident now and in really good shape. I want to give my best for the team and the club, the rest comes as a consequence.”

  1. Yeah, of course you did…Hakan doing everything to promote himself highlighting his own assist as well. The man’s ego is way too big compared to his actual abilities..
