Hakan Calhanoglu underlined how painful the loss to his former side Milan was and his plans for the future.

The 28-year-old Turkish forward joined Inter on a free transfer last summer after his contract expired with intercity rivals Milan, enraging the Rossoneri fans. It’s not been an easy season for Calhanoglu, who has struggled with inconsistency in the second half of the campaign.

Speaking to DAZN, Calhanoglu first discussed how much he spoke to coach Simone Inzaghi last summer.

“I was with the national team, I spoke two or three times with the coach and immediately there was a connection. In the end we were both happy with my transfer.”

He touched on what difficulties he’s faced since making the move across Milan.

“I have played many roles, even out wide. I’m an intelligent player and I don’t think it’s difficult. You just have to listen to what the coach wants and I immediately focused on this team.”

The 28-year-old Turkish forward spoke about how he’d rate his season.

“In my opinion I gave my all for Inter and for my teammates. I’m trying even now to do my best, we want to go up, we want to stay there. I’m happy but you can always improve.”

Calhanoglu gave his thoughts on the secret for taking a good penalty.

“There’s no secret, I’m used to it because I’ve taken so many. In those moments you shouldn’t think so much.”

He spoke about how he became the first Turkish player to make 150 appearances in Serie A.

“Yes, I like being here in Italy and I am very happy to be here. Italy and Turkey are similar countries, I’m happy for these appearances and I want to make even more.”

He touched on his plans for the future.

“I’m happy to be here, at Inter I feel at home and I want to stay.”

The Inter forward revealed which loss was the most painful this season.

“The defeat against Milan.”

Calhanoglu then revealed that the strongest defender he’s faced is “Virgil Van Dijk”, the most beautiful stadium is “San Siro”, his nicest teammate is “Ionut Radu”, toughest coach was “Gennaro Gattuso” and his childhood idol was “Ronaldinho.”
