Nicolò Barella was unavailable for Italy’s friendly against Turkey on Tuesday and his Inter teammate Hakan Calhanoglu wished him a speedy recovery.

Barella was rested by Luciano Spalletti for a friendly match against Turkey on Tuesday. Gazzetta reported the Azzurri star had suffered a minor muscle strain, but the CT said it was a precautionary decision.

Barella and Calhanoglu’s teammates Alessandro Bastoni and Federico Dimarco did play against Turkey last night.

“It’s always nice to see the teammates. We are far away, but our hearts are close,” the Turkey ace told Rai Sport.

Calhanoglu wishes speedy recovery to Italy star Barella ahead of Euro 2024

“I am sorry for Barella, who got hurt. I hope he recovers soon. He is important for Italy and he’s a very good player. It was better for us that he wasn’t there, but I wish Italy the best.”

The experienced midfielder was happy with his team’s performance in Bologna.

“We mostly focused on tactics because it’s never easy against Italy,” he said.

“They always move well, but we were united and we kept tight lines. I am happy because we worked well against a great team. We must work like this.

“There is motivation but surely, it’s not easy to start against mentally when the season ends. There is a bit of tiredness. Mister Montella is working hard. We have another friendly and we must prepare well for the Euros.”
