Hakan Calhanoglu has provided five assists from set plays in Serie A this season, but an Inter secret message may have been uncovered by Beppe Bergomi.

The Turkey international whipped in a corner for the Ivan Perisic header at the near post in this evening’s 5-0 victory over Salernitana.

It was a traditional Nerazzurri goal for this campaign, but Sky Sport Italia pundit and former Inter captain Giuseppe Bergomi noticed an intriguing ‘tell’ from Calhanoglu.

When the midfielder raises both arms, it represents a signal to his teammates that he will put the corner to the near post.

This has proved very effective so far, as Calhanoglu provided five assists from set plays in Serie A this season.

That is more than any other player in the top five European Leagues for the current campaign.

After Bergomi revealed Calhanoglu’s secret message, will the Nerazzurri continue to be this unstoppable from corners?

  1. Pretty sure every corner taker in the world raises his arms before taking his corner. It is just a signal to begin their runs, not a signal of where the corner is going. Also, debatable over how much accuracy you can even get on a corner, consistently. You basically can whip it in flat, loft it, take it short, but beyond that, you are just trying to keep it out of the goalkeeper’s grasp, usually with curl.

  2. the signal can be changing in any time.. the skills and understanding is more important.. that’s why Bergomi not hesitate to tell it

  3. Completely incorrect Luigi. It’s common to have a near post and far post signal, and yes professional players can aim corners.

  4. I can be 90% sure where to send the ball so I guess for a pro player like Hakan he is 100% sure on which post he is sending the ball
