According to reports in Italy, Venezia have reached an agreement to sign Milan defender Mattia Caldara on loan.

Sky Sport and Calciomercato.com report the newly-promoted Serie A side will sign the former Juventus and Atalanta defender on a temporary move.

Venezia and Milan’s directors met at Casa Milan today and according to Calciomercato.com, the deal will include an option to buy for the newly-promoted Serie A side and the Rossoneri will pay part of the player’s salary.

Caldara earns €2.2m-a-year at the San Siro and is under contract with the Serie A giants until June 2023.

He had joined the Rossoneri in 2018 from Juventus.

The Old Lady had signed him from Atalanta a few months earlier and Caldara could only play one friendly during the pre-season before joining Milan.

Caldara moved to the San Siro with Gonzalo Higuain, while Leonardo Bonucci returned to Juventus after just one season with the Rossoneri.

Caldara has two international caps to his name and made his senior Azzurri debut in June 2018.
