The 2006 scandal saw Juventus demoted and the 2005/06 Scudetto handed to the Nerazzurri, who also signed Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Patrick Vieira from the Bianconeri.

Recent months have seen the scandal in the headlines again, as the Old Lady are seeking €443m in damages from the FIGC, as they claim they were unfairly treated.

Federation President Carlo Tavecchio has hinted that a deal could be struck for the revoked titles if the claim is dropped, saying: ‘We are the first to understand that when you win a title on the field you have a right to it.’

Zanetti, however, clearly sees things differently.

“It's a black page in Italian football history,” The former right-back told Corriere dello Sport when asked about the scandal.

“Unfortunately it happened and everyone saw it. You can't pretend you've forgotten everything.

“But we do all have to move on now.”

Having moved upstairs since retiring as a player, the vice-President also gave his assessment of Inter, and of Italian football in general.

"Our aim is to put together a competitive side in the shortest space of time possible.

“It's going to be a challenge given that Italian football isn't going through the best of times at the moment, but together with the rest of the management, with president Thohir and the Moratti family, we'll do everything in our power to take Inter back to where the club belongs.

“In any case, I think the fact there are three Italian teams in the semi-finals of the European competitions this season is a sign that our game is on the up again.

“I do hope things are turning around. Hopefully we'll see new stadiums built that are family friendly and more comfortable, and they'll help to change the mentality."
