Just 24 hours after losing Sinisa Mihajlovic, Italian football is in mourning again, this time for the sudden death of journalist, director and pundit Mario Sconcerti.

The last couple of days have been extremely tough on the world of Calcio.

While it was known that former Bologna coach Mihajlovic was dealing with leukaemia since his diagnosis in July 2019, the loss of Sconcerti was a huge shock.

He was a regular fixture on Italian television, including RAI and Sky Sport Italia, seen on our screens only a few days ago.

According to Sky Sport Italia, the 74-year-old had been undergoing tests and suffered a heart attack.

Born in Florence, he supported Fiorentina and for a brief period was a director at the club during the final days of the Vittorio Cecchi Gori era before their bankruptcy.

Over the course of his career, he had been editor or assistant editor at the most important media sources in Italian sport, including the Corriere dello Sport, La Repubblica, Gazzetta dello Sport and most recently Tuttomercatoweb.

In a media landscape that so often favours debate descending into a shouting match, Sconcerti was a gentle, reasonable presence who never raised his voice.
