Umberto Calcagno, the president of the AIC and vice-president of the FIGC, highlighted that no Serie A teams looked into setting up a second team.

The topic of second or B teams has become heated in recent years, with some suggesting that they are crucial to developing top talent, whilst others point to them as a form of erosion in the lower divisions and a place to dump unwanted prospects. Juventus are currently the only Serie A team to have a second team, something that is common in leagues like La Liga.

Speaking at a press conference in Milan, Calcagno discussed the lack of action regarding second teams in Italy.

“In these years we have talked a lot about the second teams, it is a pity that only Juventus gave birth to a real project.

“I doubt that the situation will change next year because no other club has asked us to look into the matter. Obviously there’s still time and I hope that there will be talks.”

There may be an uptake in second teams in the coming years as FIGC rules now forbid club presidents from owning two clubs, something that has affected Lazio president Claudio Lotito and Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis. For now though, there are no real developments in the pipeline.
