Arsenal have made a formal offer to sign Riccardo Calafiori and according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Italy international will surely join the Gunners.

Italy and Bologna defender Calafiori is set to join Arsenal on a permanent €53m transfer, according to the latest report of La Gazzetta dello Sport newspaper.

Gazzetta reports today, on page 14, that the 22-year-old has chosen the Gunners over Chelsea and will sign a five-year contract worth more than €4m per season.

Gazzetta confirms that Arsenal sent a formal €53m bid last night. Other clubs interested, including PSG, Bayer Leverkusen, and Chelsea, didn’t match the Gunners’ proposal, so Calafiori is set to move to the Emirates Stadium.

The Gazzetta article even features an edited picture of Calafiori wearing the Arsenal shirt. The headline is: ‘Calafiori goes to Arsenal.’

Il Corriere dello Sport says Arsenal’s bid is slightly higher, at circa €55m, but confirms that the salary offered to the player is around €4m per season.

According to the Rome-based paper, Bologna haven’t yet accepted Arsenal’s proposal, but it seems unlikely that they’ll ask for more, so Calafiori will soon join Mikel Arteta’s side.
