Italy international Riccardo Calafiori is still struggling with a knee injury he picked up while on international duty with the Italy national team last month and will not play in the Champions League semi-final first leg between Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday night.

Arsenal are due to play PSG over two legs of the Champions League final. The winner of that tie will go on to face either Inter or Barcelona in the eventual final in Munich. Calafiori, however, will not be involved at The Emirates on Tuesday night.

The former Bologna centre-back has been out of action since the last international break, when he slipped and twisted his knee awkwardly during the Nations League quarter-final tie between Italy and Germany.

It was later confirmed that he had suffered a strain to the collateral ligament in his knee, which was initially expected to keep him out for around three weeks. It has, however, now been over five weeks since Calafiori was able to play.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of the Champions League semi-final tie against PSG, Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta gave a brief, but clear update on the Italian’s injury status.

“Riccardo Calafiori is still not fit,” is all Arteta had to say on the matter during his talk with the press.
