Davide Calabria is confident ‘there are no better teams than Milan in Italy’ after their 3-2 victory away to Atalanta, as they are clearly targeting the Scudetto.

The Rossoneri have 19 points after seven rounds, their best start since the title-winning 2003-04 campaign, only two points behind leaders Napoli.

“There are many strong sides in Italy, but in my view, there are no better teams than Milan in Italy,” Calabria told DAZN.

He opened the scoring in Bergamo after just 28 seconds, followed by Sandro Tonali and Rafael Leao strikes.

Atalanta made a late comeback with a Duvan Zapata penalty and Mario Pasalic tap-in.

“We have to focus on ourselves and continue to believe we are the best. There are games and moments that change throughout the season, but we’ve got to keep riding the positive wave while we’re here. Then we’ll see what happens.”

Coach Stefano Pioli has transformed the side that lost 5-0 to Atalanta in December 2019.

“He gives us faith, he has a clear idea of football that allows all of us to give our best. Intensity is the most important characteristic, as we can keep up the tempo for the whole match and that high press is really bringing results,” added Calabria.

He has been called up to the Italy squad to replace Atalanta defender Rafael Toloi, who pulled out through injury.

Italy will play Spain in the Nations League semi-final on October 6.

  1. There’s just the small matter of those pesky Neapolitans. You know, the ones with the totally perfect record who are two points ahead of AC Milan. Here’s hoping that both teams are completely healthy when they finally meet, and that the refereeing is uncontroversial.

  2. Davide what Lukaku did to you last year will feel like a swedish massage, once Osimhen runs through Milan, take it to the bank!

  3. Napoli have a little extra right now and are a more balanced side. I haven’t seen them get outplayed by anyone so far, whereas Milan have often been outplayed in some of their fixtures: against Samp, first half against Juve and at times last night. That said, Milan have really impressed me and have gone up another level from last season. To have done so while missing their strikers also deserves a lot of credit. It’s great to see them being in the mix again.

  4. Lol Inter are always the team to beat, definitely stronger than last year despite losing lukaku and hakimi, players are better suited to inzaghi’s style. Only problem is that they are also clearly exhausted, inzaghi needs to learn to better rotate the squad. Itl help to stop the defensive lapses, uncharacteristic skill errors because our stars like barella and de vrij have been run off their feet
